Neena Gupta On Her Initial Days: Neena Gupta is considered one of the most talented, evergreen actresses of Indian cinema. The diva made her debut in 1982 and after that, she has done a lot of work in her career. Even at the age of 64, she is ruling the silver screen. Neena has won a lot of accolades by playing different characters in many films including ‘Badhaai Ho’, ‘Unchai’, ‘Sardar Ka Grandson’, ‘Goodbye’, ‘Lust Stories 2’. Currently, the actress is in the news for the web series ‘Panchayat 3’. In this series, she will once again be seen in the role of village head Manju Devi.

Talking about her personal life, the actress is married to Delhi-based accountant Vivek Mehra. Neena’s only daughter Masaba Gupta is a famous fashion designer of the country. Amidst all this, in an interview, Neena Gupta revealed that she has done many wrong things for money.

Had to do dirty roles for money
In an interview with Shosha, Neena Gupta revealed that in the beginning of her career, she had to do dirty roles just because of the need for money. Neena said, “It has changed according to the need. Earlier, the need for money was more, so one had to do very bad things for money. Many times I used to pray to God that this film should not be released.”


Now she easily rejects offers of bad work
Neena Gupta further revealed how with the change in times and her career reaching new heights, she can now analyse and reject the projects of her choice. Something she could not even dare to think about back then. She says, “Now I can say no, I could never say no earlier. I do the scripts that I like very much, the roles that I like very much and I don’t like them.”

Initially she wanted to return to Delhi every three months
Recalling the struggle of her initial years in the film industry, Neena Gupta also spoke about the drastic change in cities and habits that she had to endure. Since she was from Delhi, it was difficult for her to adjust to the new city, Bombay. She said, “

“I came from Delhi anyway, so Bombay is a difficult city in the beginning. I think every three months I wanted to pack up and go back. I was educated. I said, ‘I will go and do my PhD. I can’t handle this. But Bombay is such a city, I thought that if I am going tomorrow, then tonight I will think that I will get some work tomorrow. It keeps me waiting.”


What did Neena Gupta say on getting the tag of a bold actress?
Neena Gupta also spoke about her identity as a rebel star or a bold actress. The veteran actress dismissed all this, saying that she never really played any glamorous roles, and instead did mostly innocent roles. Neena further said that the media misrepresented her identity as a single mother, which still carries the stigma of being beyond the norms of a working society.
